City spokesperson settles election complaint

BAYONNE – Jeffery Meyer, spokesperson for the city of Bayonne, will pay a fine of $2,379 in a settlement of eight charges of campaign violations from activities in Burlington County.
This is a reduction from the original fines imposed by the Election Law Enforcement Commission last year, and do not relate to any of his activities in Bayonne city government, city officials said this week.
The original complaint was filed in Sept. 2013 for Meyer’s activities with the Burlington County Democratic Committee and involved a number of paperwork issues such as late filing of reports, amended contributor information, and mistaken or late reporting of addresses associated with expenditures. The consent agreement reduced the original fines, but generally means that both sides in the dispute agreed to settle the matter, a city official said. Meyer was not available for comment when contacted. — By Al Sullivan
