Improving to (4-5) with two straight wins, the Chargers faced the (3-5) Eagles in hopes of making a stretch run for top seed in the JCC of Bayonne’s indoor flag football Sr. Division. Relying heavily on their shot passing attack, QB Eric Solis quickly drove his Eagles’ squad up court with passes to Ryan Ballance and Jacob Kowal before hitting Anthony Minotto on a 15 yard TD strike. Trailing 6-0, the Chargers took to the long ball approach as James Johnson zipped a 35 yard TD pass to Alejandro Cifuentes before tacking on a two point dart to Jaden Subacz making it 8-6, Chargers. Switching gears at QB, the Eagles turned to Chris Ballance who masterfully engineered his troops second scoring drive before wrapping things up with a TD heave to James Bajor giving the Eagles a 12-8 lead. What looked like a tug of war battle soon turned into a TD harvest for the Chargers as Johnson connected with Cifuentes, Subacz, and Jalen Nash on TD tosses while also hitting Kevin Aguilar for a two points before dashing in for a two point P.A.T. as Johnson’s squad built a 30-12 advantage. Aiding in the Chargers’ offensive eruption was their defense as Subacz and Johnson registered interceptions. Down by 18, the Eagles lack of firepower in their deep passing attack slowed any comeback hopes but they did go out with a bang as James Bajor made a one handed TD grab for the ages to end the bout. With a 30-18 lead, the Chargers closed out with a heavy dose of FB Kasper Hooks who took the clock down to zero with two key runs.
