Science leads at St. Augustine

Students examine carbon-decay, mixing household products

The eighth grade students at the St. Augustine School in Union City recently completed a science lab to model carbon-14 dating and study what physical and chemical changes occur when mixing baking soda and vinegar.
Using red and green squares, students modeled the decay of carbon-14 atoms by demonstrating the concept of half-life.
Not to be outdone by their upper classmates, third graders at Saint Augustine school also went to the science lab and used the scientific method to identify what change occurs when baking soda and vinegar are mixed together.
