To the Editor:
In a flash, our lives can change. One minute, you may feel all is going great and life can’t get any better. The truth is, sometimes tragedies just happen. Our community has seen its share of tragedies early on this year. It’s sad to think about it actually. Countless lives forever impacted and personal memories lost. My heart goes out to the most recent victims, the Mulcahy family, the Williams family, and Raul Plaza. You are all in my prayers.
Again, it is great to see our community, small businesses, large businesses, and the generous, hardworking, caring citizens of Bayonne come together and all chip in. The sense of pride that we all carry for one another in our community is unprecedented and extraordinary. Everyone should be proud of their hard work and efforts in helping with the fundraising and recovery efforts for all the victims.
There are numerous fundraisers in the coming weeks. Judicke’s Bakery is donating all proceeds from sprinkled doughnut sales this weekend (Feb. 27-March 1) to help their neighbors from the 34th St. fire. There is also one at the Chandelier Restaurant on Feb 25. A table will be set up for people to donate.
There is also a fundraiser for Alyssa Baez, who lost her mom and her sister recently. This event will be at the Masonic Lodge on March 7. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for teens. Please contact Mary Dunlap-Beales (201) 339-8803 or Clorinda Timpanaro (201) 978-3209 for tickets.
I think it is important for all of us to remember how truly precious life is. Sometimes we forget to take those couple of moments each day to just breathe and be thankful for all we have and our own accomplishments and efforts.
Last, the Bayonne Initiative (a volunteer organization), will be having our First Dinner Dance on March 13. At this event, we will be honoring three very special people. Frank P. Perucci will be honored with a Lifetime Service Award. First Ward Councilman Thomas Cotter will be presented with a Community Service Award, as well as teacher Jenny Circkirillo. Tickets for the event are $75. Please call the office for tickets (201) 455-8810. You may also contact me at (973) 493-4980 or johnsebik@gmail.com or email Washington Flores at wflores068@gmail.com. Thanks to all for your continued support and dedication to our great city and our neighbors.
