Visit the new neighborhood in an old Hoboken industrial corner, ‘Novho’

HOBOKEN – As the $54 million restoration was being completed of the 14th Street Viaduct in Hoboken, numerous “green” residential buildings, restaurants, and hip businesses have started to sprout there, including a cooking school and several theater groups. The industrial buildings in the area are being transformed, but the cobblestones along the Viaduct remain. A new park, dog run, and colorful lighting under the Viaduct arrived in the last few months. Welcome to Novho (pronounced like SoHo), the exciting neighborhood North of the Viaduct in Hoboken.
After a cover story that ran in the Hoboken Reporter on the trendy new neighborhood earlier this month, a few people in the comments section debated the name. One said the area used to have peach trees, hence the current name of the local mini-mall, Peachtree Village. Another suggested “Novia,” since that’s the name of a new residential building there (North of the Viaduct, of course). A theater director suggested it’s now “The Theater District” and she has a point.
The area also has political intrigue, as part of it was at the center of a Hoboken/Chris Christie scandal.
It’s a place worth checking out, reminiscent of the meatpacking district in Manhattan or DUMBO in Brooklyn. Read more about it by using the link above!
