Subacz sparks Knights comeback win

At (4-1), the Knights only blemish on their record came via a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the (1-3) Dragons as they compete in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Jr. Division. Meeting for the third time this season, the Dragons once again seemed to have the Knights’ “number” as they raced out to a 3-0 lead with goals by Emya Irwin, Brenna Popowski, and Roman Popowski. With Irwin and Brenna Popowski each notching assists, Michael Cordero also got into the mix with his third assist of the season. Stunned by the Dragons’ offensive bombardment, the Knights looked to regroup and jumpstart their league leading offense. Turning to team captain Dylan Subacz, the Knights clawed back as Subacz blasted in three goals in two minutes to tie the game at 3 all. With their commanding lead vanished, the Dragons’ defense held on with Lilliana Cordero, Raunak Verma, and Vikram Balaguru doing their best to keep the surging Knights at bay. Swamped by the Knights’ relentless attack, the Dragons watched as Subacz booted in 5 more goals with Aviv Talmor (3), Toni Rivada (4), and Joyce Gabrael (1) picking up assists along the way. With their offense on fire, the Knights’ defense held up their end as Edward Denne, Amy Gabrael, and Nazar Kolesnyk joined forces to shut down the Dragons’ playmakers and tally a come from behind 8-3 victory.
