Dear Editor:
Three weeks ago, the city council voted for a new flood pump to be located at the condo’s at Maxwell. At face value, this could potentially be a good thing for the city of Hoboken and I am all for solving the flooding issue. The problem is how this was handled.
The residents of this area had one meeting and it was basically a presentation on how and when the project was getting done.
Where were the additional community meetings?
Why did the city not allow the residents ample time to voice concerns?
The new pump may help Hoboken, which would be great, but without allowing the residents the opportunity to voice their opinions we are doing a disservice to the community. To postpone the vote for 60 days would have provided enough time for all parties to meet, discuss and hopefully become comfortable with the situation.
Instead what we witnessed, in my opinion, was nothing short of Mayor Zimmer (behind the scenes) instructing her aligned city council people to vote her way, as usual. The interesting vote was by Tim Occhipinti. Tim is up for re-election this November for his council seat so it was interesting to see him flip and start voting with Mayor Zimmer. Let’s see how that plays out in November Timmy.
