Ochoa nets three as Sonics win

Rolling into week three of the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Sr. Division, the (1-1) Sonics faced the (1-2) Rockets. The Sonics got on the board first as Mackenzie Woods assisted Robert Ochoa on his first goal of the season. Minutes later, the Rockets answered as Kevin Aguilar made a scoring blast off an assist from Kyle O’Hara. After a 10-minute stalemate, the Rockets took a 2-1 advantage as Kyle O’Hara once again served-up a centering pass to Kevin Aguilar who notched his league leading eighth goal of the season. The Rockets’ lead was short lived as the Sonics benefited from a Rockets’ defensive miscue with Alejandro Vargas booting in a topspin dart. Tied at 2-2, the Rockets controlled the pace with Chloe Gregory, Harsh Easwar, and Natallyah Teixeira sailing vollies into the Sonics zone. After two near misses by the Rockets’ Jaden Subacz, the Sonics’ offense finally perked up as Robert Ochoa nailed his second and third goals of the bout, both assisted by Alejandro Vargas as the Sonics took a 4-2 lead. The Rockets weren’t ready to call it a day as they bulled 8 shots on net in the final five minutes but James Bajor and T. J. Wolf weathered the storm at net while speedster Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes cleared rebounds into the Rockets’ zone to hold on for a 4-2 win.
