Bayonne gateways cleanup date set
Get your brooms and shovels out.
It’s official; Saturday, April 25 at noon Bayonne residents and others will be cleaning up the city’s uptown gateways at Kennedy Boulevard, Avenue C, and Broadway.
“We will meet at the gateway located uptown on the borderline between Bayonne and Jersey City on Kennedy Boulevard at noon,” said organizer Corrado DeVincenzo. “Once volunteers finish one gateway, we’ll move as a team to the next. First Impressions count, and since we love our city, we want people’s first impressions to be positive ones.”
In tandem with the gateways cleanup, Beautify Bayonne will launch its “Adopt Your Block” initiative on the same day, according to DeVincenzo.
Residents will clean up areas around their homes and businesses and post pictures on social media sites to create awareness about keeping Bayonne clean.
“Beautify Bayonne founder Deb Peveler, organizer Chris Piechocki, and I believe that with our current administration and all the amazing people in our community we can make Bayonne one of the cleanest cities in New Jersey,” DeVincenzo said. “But we need your help.”
Participants are asked to bring their own gloves. If they are unable to, gloves will be provided.
The rain date is the following Saturday, May 2, at the same time and location.

Liberty Humane Society hosting culinary competition
The “Battle of the (meat)Balls,” on Saturday, May 9 at Bayonne High School’s athletic facility, is a one-day meatball tasting competition open to home, youth, and professional chefs. Contestants will submit their best meatballs for judging during this public event, to which spectators and guests are invited.
Prizes will be awarded to the best in each of five categories: traditional, non-traditional, vegetarian/vegan, dessert, and “Best Balls,” a people’s choice award.
A Kids’ Corner will be available, where the society will present its new humane education program, featuring activities for young animal lovers.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Liberty Humane and its new spay/neuter clinic. The on-site clinic will help the society meet its spay/neuter policy commitment, ensuring each animal has been altered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped before adoption.
Housed in a customized recreational vehicle, the clinic is staffed by experienced and specialized veterinarians and veterinarian technicians.
