Bayonne residents beautify their city

BAYONNE – Dozens of Bayonne residents pulled out their brooms and garbage bags on Saturday, April 25 to sweep up the gateways to their city during Beautify Bayonne’s “Feet to the Street” community clean up.
Many of the volunteers could be seen at 58th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard, including city resident and “superhero” Capt. Bayonne.
“First impressions count, and since we love our city, we want people’s first impressions to be a positive one,” said organizer Corrado DeVincenzo.
Jesse Hendrix and his six-year-old son Alex (pictured) were participating as part of the contingent from Cub Scout Pack 19 at Mt. Carmel Church.
In addition to the clean up at the gateways, on the same day Beautify Bayonne launched its “Adopt Your Block” initiative throughout the city. Residents were encouraged to clean up areas around their homes and businesses and to post their pictures on social media.
Beautify Bayonne founder Deb Peveler and clean up organizer Chris Piechocki were among the proponents of the effort.
“With all the amazing people in our community, we can make Bayonne one of the cleanest cities in New Jersey,” Peveler said. –Joseph Passantino
