Hudson County Coalition for a Drug-Free Community (HCCDFC) is working in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, Partnership for Drug Free NJ, and the New Jersey Prevention Network to sponsor a Spring Cleaning Initiative. The Spring Cleaning event was created by local coalition members to promote the proper disposal of old or unused prescriptions and over the counter medications on Saturday, April 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Hudson County residents are invited to bring their medications for disposal to the nearest permanent prescription drug drop box.
There will be four Hudson County collection sites located at Law Enforcement departments throughout the county:
• Hudson County Sherriff’s Office, 257 Cornelison Ave, Jersey City
• North Bergen Police, 4233 John F Kennedy Blvd W, North Bergen
• Secaucus Police Station,1203 Paterson Plank Rd., Secaucus, NJ
• West New York Police Department at 428 60th Street, in West New York.
Prescription medication abuse and misuse is a growing issue and continues to be a pressing concern in local communities. Nearly one-third of people age 12 or older who tried an illicit drug for the first time in the past year began by using a prescription medication for non-medical reasons. To address these problems HCCDFC is working increase awareness of properly securing, monitoring, and disposing of medication.
