What has changed?

To the Editor:

If you haven’t noticed, it’s election time again in the chosen county of corruption, Hudson County. This time though, the election that will mostly affect Bayonne is for State Assembly. What has changed in our county? What has changed in Bayonne? Have we seen anything new? Have we felt anything new besides higher taxes, less education funding, and more traffic? There are actually an abundance of positive trends flowing in our community. One of them is the growing awareness and an event-driven arts community.
I took a recent look at some of the meet and greets that the candidates have had and in actuality, the power players and most people connected with the last administration as well as other administrations are back in tune. These individuals or leaders are the same members and cheerleaders, who have pulled the wool over our eyes for the last 13 years. At first, I could not believe what I was seeing but yes, it was true. I am all for reconciliation and moving ahead but what I do not get is how can we trust any of them anymore. These people have not only boasted of their successes, while in office, when there were none, but they have also made money hand over fist and we, the citizens, have continued to sweat and toil and pay the price. Is this what we want all over again? I for one would say, absolutely not.
Don’t get me wrong, I voted for change that was definitely needed for Bayonne. I voted for our mayor and council because I believed in the change. I believe in a person’s word. I believed that this new administration would be a breath of fresh air and they are indeed in a lot of great ways. I do feel, however, that this administration has fallen under the spell of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, and politics is being played which is similar to our old mayor. There is no such thing as a good leader, only a great leader, who creates his or her own following.
I am still waiting to hear the outcome of the state audits that we were all promised would happen in city hall and also the outcome with the missing money from the Board of Education.
I look forward to big change in the State Assembly race, and change will definitely not happen with a handpicked candidate, who will tell you only what you want to hear now and will definitely do otherwise later because he is told to. We need leadership in the 31st District, not another follower of the HCDO. This is why I will be supporting Column C, Flores and Alston. These are two fighters, who cannot be bought and will not follow. They will do their jobs and their best to represent the people of the 31st District and not the politics of the 31st District.
