A funeral mass was offered May 6 at Our Lady of Mercy Church for Samuel J. Giove, “Sam”, 83, lifelong Jersey City resident. He passed away May 1 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wayne. Sam was born in Jersey City. He graduated from Snyder High School in Jersey City, and then went to serve in the U.S. Navy for 2 years. He was married to Catherine B. Sullivan in 1956 and they went on to celebrate 59 years of marriage.
Sam was a Jersey City firefighter for 32 years, as well as a bus driver for the Lutheran School for more than 30 years. Sam enjoyed many summers with his family at his vacation home in Schroon Lake, NY. Sam was predeceased by his parents Anthony Giove and Rose Savino Giove and his sister Grace Giove De Tore along with his father-in-law Peter Sullivan and mother-in-law Catherine “Kitty” Sullivan. Sam is survived by is wife Catherine, sons Peter, Sam (FDJC) and Greg (FDJC); daughter-in-law Cindy and grandchildren Matthew, Sammy, Catherine and Allyson and brother-in-law John De Tore.
