Rep. Pascrell holds ‘Small Business Walk’ in Secaucus

SECAUCUS – In recognition of Small Business Week, U.S. Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. visited nine businesses in downtown Secaucus on Tuesday, May 5, speaking with owners and providing information on loans and grants available through the Small Business Administration (SBA).
Pascrell was accompanied by District Director Alfred Titone and Public Affairs Specialist Harry Menta of the SBA, who distributed copies of the 2015 Resource Guide of Small Business, a booklet packed with information on topics including starting, marketing, and managing a business; financing options to start or grow a business; and applying for government contracts.
Titone spoke to owners about options for receiving low interest loans, while Pascrell provided a fact sheet on the Affordable Care Act.
Business owners were delighted to meet with the congressman along his route down Front Street and Paterson Plank Road. The first stop was Marra’s Drug Store, a mainstay in Secaucus for more than 90 years, owned and operated by the same family for three generations.
Also accompanying Pascrell on the walk were Mayor Michael Gonnelli and Town Council Members Susan Pirro, William McKeever, and Robert Costantino. Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto stopped in for a visit at Filomena’s Deli.
The walk also stopped at Te-Amo, Gro Mart, Optometrist Dr. Melvin Jankolovits, Shaurya Oriental Rugs, The Craft Clique, U.S. Polymers Inc, Freed Vision Center, and TR’s Barber Shop.
The mayor had already scheduled a public meeting on May 28 to discuss topics related to small businesses in the town and provide information on local initiatives being undertaken. The meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Senior Center, 101 Centre Ave.
Representatives from the SBA will attend the meeting.
