ALMONTE, ADOLFO

A funeral mass was offered April 27 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hoboken, for Adolfo Almonte, 76, of Union City. He passed away April 23. Born in the Dominican Republic, he was a retired New York City bank teller. A lover of art and music, Adolfo was an accomplished operatic tenor, having sung extensively in operas for the Tristate area and Washington D.C. In 1990 he sang the role of the Messenger in the opera “Aida” alongside the celebrated Metropolitan Opera star, Placido Domingo in the Newark Symphony Hall. In 1992, he sang the leading tenor role for “Il Trovatore” in Florham Park. Adolfo had also studied voice with Franco Corelli and John Alexander of the Metropolitan Opera. He is survived by his fiance, Angela Grimaldi. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
