Fundraiser scheduled for Jersey City youth boxing program

JERSEY CITY — The Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders often assists the Christian Boxing Academy in its fundraising efforts for its youth outreach programs. Jersey City Police Sgt. Cristino Felix, founder of the Christian Boxing Academy, will host a youth boxing fundraiser event at the Jersey City National Guard Armory on June 20 located at 678 Montgomery St. The FIST-A-CUFFS 2015 event will start at 7:15 p.m.
The outreach program will teach and encourage the youth of Jersey City of the importance of academics, sportsmanship, personal self-control and disciplines of boxing.
The Christian Boxing Academy’s mission is to establish a location of refuge for youths in Jersey City where they would feel safe and learn the art of boxing. The program will require the youths to provide the status of their scholastic semester and if assistance is needed, resources will be provided.
The event will consist of Local and State Law Enforcement/ Public Safety/First Responder personnel who will participate in boxing matches. It will honor the memory of slain Jersey City Police Detective Melvin Santiago who was killed in the line of duty on July 13, 2014. Also members of the Armed Forces from New Jersey who paid the ultimate sacrifice will be honored.
