Here’s a rundown of recent Little League play:

Stan’s falls to Russo’s 2-1

Not even a strong hitting and pitching performance from Joshua Sapira could carry Stan’s past Russo’s at HOBOKEN on Monday as Stan’s suffered a 2-1 defeat. It was a good day at the plate for Stan’s’ Joshua. Joshua went 1-3 and scored one run. He tripled in the third inning. Joshua shut down Russo’s while he was on the rubber. Sapira gave up just one hit, allowed one earned run, walked four and struck out six during his four innings of work. Jonathan Salinas struck out six hitters en route to the Russo’s win. Jonathan allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks over five innings. Stan’s scored its only run of the game on an RBI single by Vincent Chirichella in the third inning. Russo’s stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Matthew Harasack and an error.

Cassesa’s defeats Fiore’s 8-4

Jacob Pantoja went 3-3 at the plate, sparking Cassesa’s to an 8-4 victory in six innings over Fiore’s on Monday at HOBOKEN. He singled in the first inning, tripled in the third inning, and doubled in the fourth inning. It was a good day at the plate for Fiore’s’ Antonio Clemente. Antonio went 2-3 and scored one run. He singled in the first and third innings. Fiore’s jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Antonio got things going for Fiore’s with a single. A stolen base then moved Antonio from first to second. Antonio then stole home. It didn’t take long for Cassesa’s to answer as it scored one run of its own in the first. Cassesa’s scored on a groundout by Anthony Henriquez. The lead stayed with Cassesa’s after the third, when it scored three runs on an RBI single by Jake Landsbergis and an RBI triple by Jacob. It didn’t take long for Cassesa’s to answer as it scored one run of its own in the fourth. Cassesa’s scored on an RBI double by Jacob. One run in the top of the fifth helped Fiore’s close its deficit to 4-3. A groundout by Javier Figueroa triggered Fiore’s’ comeback. Finally, Max induced an inning-ending strike out from Noah Strandberg. Cassesa’s quickly matched Fiore’s’ strong inning with a three-run inning of its own in the fifth. Cassesa’s scored on an RBI single by Joseph Giattino, a groundout by Jake, and an RBI single by Josian Matos.

Chirichella Boys makes the most of 3 hits in 8-4 victory over Police Dept.

Chirichella Boys and Police Dept. both had scoring chances on Tuesday, but it was Chirichella Boys that was able to capitalize on them as it pulled out an 8-4 win at HOBOKEN. Police Dept. got five hits compared with just three for Chirichella Boys, but Police Dept. stranded eight on base. Isa Oliveri got on base three times in the game for Chirichella Boys. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He singled in the third inning and tripled in the sixth inning. A bright spot for Police Dept. Chirichella Boys got two-run rallies in the third inning and the sixth. In the third, Chirichella Boys scored on a bases loaded walk by Saurev, bringing home Isa. Chirichella Boys tacked on another three runs in the fourth. An error scored Matthew to get Chirichella Boys on the board in the inning. Chirichella Boys put up two more runs in the top of the sixth when Ryan Burke stole home. After pushing across four runs in the bottom of the sixth, Police Dept. faced just a 7-4 deficit. An RBI single by Tige Mauseth, a walk by Chris Riccardi, a walk by Rafeal Rothkegel, and a walk by Daniel Wehrhahn gave Police Dept. life.

Rodney Classen throws no-hitter as Young Dems defeats Piccolo’s 11-0

Tuesday was a day Rodney Classen will remember forever as Rodney threw a no-hitter in Young Dems’ 11-0 victory over Piccolo’s. No Piccolo’s batter was able to locate Rodney’s pitches during the game. Rodney threw a no-hitter, striking out eight batters and walking three while recording his momentous feat. He got Troy Reynolds to ground out for the final out of the game. The biggest inning for Young Dems was the fifth. Young Dems’ bats caught fire leading to six runs. Young Dems scored in the fifth on an error, a two-run double by Gabe Laden, and a two-run triple by Rodney. Rodney racked up two RBIs on two hits for Young Dems. Young Dems built upon its lead with three runs in the third. A ground out scored Jason Blanks to get Young Dems on the board in the inning.

Offenses dominate as Elks outscores Mas Demolition 18-8

The bats were busy at HOBOKEN on Wednesday, and when the dust cleared Elks had an 18-8 win over Mas Demolition in four innings. The teams banged out 14 hits hits between them, as well as six for extra bases. The game was back-and-forth heading into the third, with five lead changes. Elks pulled out the win thanks to a strong third inning. A walk by Hudson Borelli scored Damian Acosta and gave Elks the lead for good. Mas Demolition jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Donny Rosso singled to ignite Mas Demolition’s offense. A stolen base then moved Donny from first to second. Robert Auld doubled, scoring Donny. More runs came home for Mas Demolition when A scored on an error and P and V scored on a two-run double by Adian Cepeda. Mas Demolition tied the game in the third on a two-run single by Adian that scored Conner Caloni and Maxwell Kirk. Elks quickly matched Mas Demolition’s strong inning with a seven-run inning of its own in the fourth. Elks scored on a two-run triple by Mike, a two-run single by Zachary Johnson, a two-run single by Zachary, a two-run single by Jackson Murray, and a two-run single by Jackson.

Dual-threat carries Fire Dept. past Mario’s Pizza 9-1

Seshan Ganesan powered Fire Dept. at the plate and on the bump Thursday, willing Fire Dept. to a 9-1 victory over Mario’s Pizza. Seshan went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for Fire Dept. He singled in the fifth and sixth innings. Seshan got the win for Fire Dept. thanks to eight strikeouts. Seshan allowed no earned runs, four hits and one walk over six innings. Fire Dept. beat Mario’s Pizza thanks to six hits, including one extra base hits. Fire Dept. scored in the sixth on a groundout by Michael Caracappa, an RBI single by Jacob Wright, and an RBI single by Seshan. Fire Dept. didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the first inning when it scored on a two-run home run by Angel Sanabria.

Fiore’s makes the most of 7 hits in 6-4 victory over Stan’s

Fiore’s and Stan’s each put runners in scoring position on Thursday, but Fiore’s capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 6-4 win at HOBOKEN. Stan’s got eight hits compared with just seven for Fiore’s, but Stan’s stranded 10 on base. Fiore’s held off Stan’s, as Stan’s was unable to overcome a five-run second inning deficit. Stan’s scored on an RBI single by Joshua Sapira and an RBI single by Benjamin Rubin in the third inning, an RBI single by Jack Conlon in the fifth inning, and an RBI double by Daniel Raskes in the sixth inning. Still, Stan’s couldn’t draw even. Javier Figueroa racked up two RBIs on one hit for Fiore’s. He doubled in the second inning. Vincent Chirichella got on base three times in the game for Stan’s. He singled in the first inning. Fiore’s didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring five runs in the second inning when it scored on two doubles, an error, and an RBI single by Sammy Cooper.

Second-inning rally sparks win for Russo’s, 15-7

An eight-run explosion in the second inning lifted Russo’s to a 15-7 win in six innings over Mas Demolition at HOBOKEN on Tuesday. Russo’s scored in the second on a walk by Joel Lopez, a walk by Matthew Harasack, a three-run error, an RBI single by Jae Coto, and a groundout by Robert Brockman. Jae racked up three RBIs on three hits for Russo’s. Mas Demolition jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The scoreboard lit up again for Mas Demolition when an run scored on an error. Three runs in the top of the third helped Mas Demolition close its deficit to 8-7. An RBI single by Adian Cepeda, an RBI single by Shane, and an RBI single by Robert Auld fueled Mas Demolition’s comeback. Russo’s tacked on another six runs in the fourth. A hit into a fielder’s choice scored Robert to get Russo’s on the board in the inning.

Cassesa’s tops Mario’s Pizza in back-and-forth affair, 12-7

Cassesa’s and Mario’s Pizza passed the lead back and forth three times on Tuesday at HOBOKEN, but in the end Cassesa’s pulled out a 12-7 win in six innings over Mario’s Pizza. Cassesa’s finally managed to grab the lead after a strong second inning. Cassesa’s scored on a three-run triple by Max Schewede off Sawyer Kron, scoring Wyatt Flett, Quincy Flett and Jack Giattino. Max racked up three RBIs on two hits for Cassesa’s. Sawyer racked up two RBIs on two hits for Mario’s Pizza. He singled in the first inning and tripled in the sixth inning. In the top of the first, Cassesa’s grabbed the early lead, 1-0. It didn’t take long for Mario’s Pizza to respond as it scored three runs of its own in the first. Mario’s Pizza scored on a two-run single by Sawyer and an RBI single by Eli Blumenfeld. Cassesa’s added four more runs in the top of the fifth. Anthony Henriquez kicked things off with a single, scoring Alvin Rivera and Max. Cassesa’s piled on two more runs in the top of the sixth. The inning got off to a hot start when Nyjohn Freeman singled, plating Max. That was followed up by Jake’s single, scoring Nyjohn. Three Mario’s Pizza runs crossed the plate in the bottom half of the sixth, making the score 11-7. A two-run double by Benny Love and an RBI triple by Sawyer gave Mario’s Pizza life. But, Max got Eli to ground out to end the game.

Michael D’Antonio helps Chirichella Boys down Fire Dept. 5-2

Michael D’Antonio went 2-3, helping Chirichella Boys to a 5-2 victory over Fire Dept. on Wednesday at HOBOKEN. He singled in the third inning and doubled in the fifth inning. Fire Dept.’s poor play in the field contributed to the loss. Fire Dept. gave up two unearned runs while committing three errors over the course of the game. The top of the second saw Fire Dept. take an early lead, 2-0. Matthew Potter kicked things off for Fire Dept. with a single. The game’s last lead went to Chirichella Boys thanks to a third inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on an error and a two-run single by James Davis. Chirichella Boys increased its lead with two runs in the fifth. The inning looked promising, as Michael doubled, bringing home Matthew to kick things off.
