Independently having fun

Bayonne Fourth of July celebration

It was a red, white, and blue Thursday night, July 2, as Bayonne ushered in the Fourth of July weekend early with fireworks, music, and family fun.
The city joined county neighbors Secaucus and Union City with its own early annual celebration of American Independence on the lower level of DiDomenico-16th Street Park, between Avenue A and Newark Bay.
Thousands of Bayonne residents, their friends, and family members attended.
The fun began with the free children’s bounce houses and games of skill provided by the city.
Following that, The Blue Dawg Band entertained the crowd with renditions of rock classics and other tunes at the municipal amphitheater.
A brief downpour in the middle of the evening didn’t dampen spirits or spark an exodus.
After 9 p.m. the crowd got what they came for with an approximately half-hour pyrotechnic display presented by Garden State Fireworks.
