Shutting off PSE&G

JERESEY CITY — In order to get PSE&G to comply with street paving regulations, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has ordered all non-essential PSE&G projects halted throughout the city
Every year the City of Jersey City issues roughly 1,200 permits to utility providers like PSEG to dig up streets so they can perform maintenance on the underground infrastructure. Too often, however, PSEG fails to adequately repair or repave the road, leaving the streets unsightly and in disrepair.
In January, the Jersey City Council adopted an ordinance to tackle this issue. It required all utility companies to repave a street curb-to-curb if it the street is dug up within 10 years after the city has resurfaced it.
