UPDATED: Assemblyman retires from firefighting

BAYONNE – Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell, also a 20-year veteran of the Bayonne Fire Department, has retired from his municipal post of fire captain, according to an online report.
As part of his retirement, O’Donnell will receive more than $84,000 in unused accumulated time owed to him over a three-year period, the report on nj.com said. His last annual salary was $136,623.
O’Donnell was municipal services director and public safety director during the administration of Mayor Mark Smith.
O’Donnell will finish his current assembly term representing the 31st District. He chose not to run again, and will serve until the end of the year.
“I couldn’t be more grateful for the career and being able to work in the city I’ve been in my whole life,” O’Donnell said. “But other things come up, and it’s time to move on to another phase of my life.”
