Freeholders help deliver mock-up

Dear Editor:
I would like to thank the Board of Freeholders for listening to my request for a mock-up of the Jersey City municipal elections if held in November. A mock-up will be presented at the October 6, 2015 meeting at 4:00 p.m. on an election voting machine. Mayor Fulop wants the election moved from May to November.
If the mayor is successful, this will take place in 2017, so the mock-up represents various offices from the state, county and board of education races. The mock-up will show the addition of the Jersey City mayoral/council race. I asked for five mayoral candidates, their fifteen at- large candidates plus five names for the ward races. I also asked the mock-up to include three state questions found in many elections.
As a side note, one of the freeholders also said communities that have move their board of education races to November have the top three candidates chosen as winners due to the crowded ballot. Perhaps this should be addressed down the road.
I want to give a special thank you to Freeholders Bill O’Dea and Junior Maldonaldo for their leadership in this matter and I urge the public to see the mock-up before the public decides this question.
