Private funeral services were planned for Sophie Filker, 94. She passed away Oct. 5. Born on the Lower East Side, she spent her adult life in Jersey City, where she met and married Milton Filker and raised their two daughters. Sophie was an active member of Friends of Liberty State Park, a founding and executive board member of Friends of Music and Art of Hudson County. As an honorary member of AFSCME Council 52, she was presenter of the Milton Filker Scholarship Award, named for her husband. Survived by her daughters, Judith Carluccio and Elaine Sheffler, her son-in-law, Steven Sheffler, her four grandchildren Michel, Matthew, Sam and Gillian and four great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Roxane, Leonardo and Daniel. Services arranged by the Eden Memorial Chapels, Fort Lee.
