Sheriff’s office involved in accident in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY – A Hudson County Sheriff’s patrol unit collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Sonice at the intersection of Kennedy Boulverard Highland Avenue at about 6:40 a.m. on Oct. 29.
The driver, 57, and passenger, 58, both from Jersey City, were transported by Jersey City EMS to the Jersey City Medical Center with minor injuries.
“The patrol unit was responding to back up another Sheriff’s Officer in Jersey City,” said Sheriff Frank Schillari. “Sheriff’s Officer David Fontanez was travelling southbound on Kennedy Blvd, in a marked Hudson County Sheriff’s unit with emergency lights and siren activated.”
Sheriff’s Officer Fontanez was also transported to the Medical Center with minor injuries.
Weather conditions may have played a role in the crash — it was dark and raining at the time of the crash. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is still investigating the crash.
