Miceli sparks Eagles victory

After suffering a hard fought overtime defeat in their season opener, the (0-1) Chargers hoped to bounce back as they took on the Eagles in a JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Indoor Flag Football tussle. Getting out to a slow start, the Eagles finally got on track as QB Matt Miceli hit Drew Radil on a 30 yard TD lazer followed by a two point toss to Nicholas DePinto to go up 8-0. With Mike Piscopi at the helm, the Chargers countered with a TD strike to Ryan Ballance to cut the Eagles’ lead to 8-6. Taking advantage of a run minded Chargers’ defense the Eagles went over the top as Jacob Kowal reeled in a coast to coast TD bomb while Nicholas DePinto’s second two point catch put the Eagles up 16-6 at the half. Keeping the pedal down, the Eagles once again got on the move with a 10 yard dash by Da’mien Taylor and a diving first down snare by Damon Taylor to set up Matt Miceli’s 20 yard TD catch. Down 22-6, the Chargers got a huge boost as Tristen Johnson, Harsh Easwar, and Chris Ballancechipped in with key grabs to set up Matt Piscopi’s leaping TD grab to cut the Eagles’ advantage to 22-12. With the Chargers still nipping at their heels, the Bengals once again turned to their sure handed slot receiver Matt Miceli who rang up his second TD catch while Jacob Kowal’s two point grab made it 30-12 Eagles with just 1:46 remaining. Never backing down, the Chargers stayed in the fight as Ryan Ballance hauled in a wire to wire TD strike and added a two point catch to make it 30-20 Eagles as time ran out.
