A school for students with developmental challenges

To the Editor:

The time has come for a school within the 31st District of New Jersey completely dedicated to children with developmental challenges such as autism and ADHD. Such a school would focus available resources in a single location, rather than spread out across the district. Children would no longer have to be bused out of the area in order to receive a proper education.
Many such children are very intelligent, yet are often passed over, if not ignored. These children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential to become productive citizens of our community. A specialized school will provide this opportunity. We have several vacant schools that can easily be converted for this purpose, and will also provide room for an educational and jobs training program for developmentally challenged adults. Specialized communication and social skills classes will help these adults to better manage their lives and give them better employment opportunities.
We all need to come together on this issue and help those people within our district that need specialized educational or job related training. Having a central facility dedicated to these services will improve conditions for children, their parents, and adults in need. Our community will benefit as well. Having more people fulfilling their potential can only strengthen our community, and we should do all we can to help make this school a reality.
One of my top priorities if elected to the New Jersey State Assembly (31st D N.J.) will be funding this program, fighting for the rights of children and adults with developmental challenges, and bringing them fully into our community. My running mate, Alejandro Rodriguez, and I are fully dedicated to this purpose and no one will fight harder to get it done. For this and other reasons, we ask that you come out on November 3 and support us with your vote. Help us fight for your child, your niece or nephew, your grandchild, your neighbor’s son or daughter. Help us do what is right for those who need it most.
Thank you.
