Hoboken officer ejected from motorcycle while heading as backup for drug arrest, police say

HOBOKEN – Motorcycle Officer Thomas Turner is currently being treated at the Hoboken University Medical Center for injuries sustained while responding as backup to two other officers during a drug arrest, the Hoboken Police Department said in a statement via email.
The accident took place at the intersection of Fourth and Washington Streets on Friday, Nov. 20 at noon.
Two plain-clothed officers from the Hoboken Police Department’s Anti-Vice Bureau, whose names were not disclosed, were conducting a narcotics investigation near the Hoboken Housing Authority which led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Hoboken, the statement said.
Detectives attempted to place him in handcuffs when a 19-year-old man of Hoboken interfered, police said. “At this time, detectives called for assistance,” according to a release.
Turner was among the officers on his way to act as backup when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident. The release said the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The 29-year-old man was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstructing arrest, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a Housing Complex, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a housing complex, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a School.
