Memorial to a train accident

To the Editor:

The last edition of the Community News had an article about the missing West Sixth Street. What brought memories to me was the picture of the old CNJ railroad bridge remains. While it was still running, I would use it from Bayonne to Elizabethport for work. I still remember the pictures from the newspaper of the horrifying train accident from 1958. What disturbs me most now is that there is no memorial for the people who died on that day. The city is talking about developing the waterfront by the old bridge, and I would hope the city has in it plans to erect a memorial honoring the dead from the crash with a brief history. It is long overdue.
