Filmmaker Frank Gigante receives recognition award

Mayor of Andria, Italy, honors film that celebrates life in the Puglia region

Hoboken filmmaker Frank Gigante recently received a recognition award on behalf of the Mayor of Andria, in the Puglia region of Italy, for sharing a film based on local traditions and culture on weddings in the 1960s, a sort of history piece.
The film “La Zuite” by Sabino Matera and directed by Umberto Sardella, about a wedding in Andria in 1960, was screened in Hoboken on March 13 at the Juventus S. Club.
The film, “The Zùite,” was shot in Andriese dialect with subtitles in Italian. The film enchanted third-generation Italian Americans, and actors Sabino Matera and Sabino Zagaria received a very warm welcome from the Pugliese community in New Jersey.
Sabino Matera dedicated this film to his parents and also expressed it by naming the groom and bride Nicola and Ginetta.
Hudson County Freeholder Anthony Romano showed his support for fellow Italian Americans by stopping by the screening and also expressed how important it was that Gigante contributed his time and passion to share culture from the native country.
Sabino Matera also expressed his joyous appreciation to filmmaker Frank Gigante for helping make his dream come through by screening his film “La Zuite” in America.
Gigante said the screening was a success thanks to president of the Juventus S. Club, Nick Amato, vice president Bernard Amato, and the director of Family Day Angela Minervini.
Gigante presented recognition awards to the two actors and the Juventus S. Club on behalf of My Way Produzioni.
