A funeral mass took place June 1 at St. Francis Church in Hoboken for George Posligua, 73, of Hoboken. He passed away at his home surrounded by his family on May 29. George was born in Manabi, Ecuador. In Ecuador he proudly served as a pilot for the Air Force and Army. He became a widely known pilot and respected engineer. He left Ecuador to pursue his dreams at an early age in 1969. After a few years of arriving in the United States, he attended New York University where he studied business administration. Years later, he became a successful travel agent in the Tri-State area.
George distinguished himself with the Elks Lodge 74 in Hoboken helping special children. He accomplished many objectives as a Loyal, Lecturing, and Leading Knight. He also held one of the most prestigious positions in the Elks as an Exalted Ruler. George also became a key member of the Lions Organization assisting blind children in the community.
He is survived by his son Joel Posligua, fiance Debbie Rutherford, sister Ramona, goddaughter Aileen, niece Michelle, and two grandnephews from Connecticut, Uncle Hugo, and many nieces and nephews from New York. George is also survived by his brothers and sisters in Ecuador; Martha, Orfilia, Elsa, Benito, Leopoldo, Arcenio, Braulio, Manuel, Luis, and many other family members.
