Race on the Hudson

America’s Cup races first in area in almost a century

Although high winds over the Hudson River cut short the America’s Cup races, residents on both sides got to watch a sight not seen here since 1920.
Thousands of people crowded the banks of the river from Bayonne to North Bergen to watch the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series.
This was a competition of lightweight sailboats in the first in a series of events held throughout the Western Hemisphere for the privilege of competing in the finals scheduled to take place in Bermuda in 2017. Competitors sought to challenge Team USA, the reigning champion. These events bring out what are considered the world’s best sailors.
