BAYONNE – The city Zoning Board postponed, for the second time, a meeting to address a proposed Islamic Center to June 28. Bayonne Muslims, the nonprofit group that has been renting the basement of St. Henry’s School for prayer services and community gatherings for six years, has been seeking a larger, permanent property on the east end of 24th Street and Avenue F to serve as a mosque and community center. The first meeting was scheduled for January 19, then was postponed to March 25 due to a health issue on the group’s legal counsel.
They now need more time to update a traffic study. The group’s request for building permits will be addressed at 6 p.m. on June 28 at the City Council Chambers at 630 Avenue C.
