Ferry accident injures 17 passengers

JERSEY CITY – A hard landing by a New York Waterways Ferry at the Paulus Hook pier in Jersey City on July 23 resulted in injury to 17 passengers, according to city officials.

City spokesperson Jennifer Morrill said most of the injuries were minor but a few people were carried off on stretchers. All were sent to Christ Hospital and Jersey City Medical Center for evaluation. The ferry was arriving in Jersey City from the World Financial Center in Manhattan when the accident occurred, officials said.

The Jersey City Fire Department responded to pier at about 7:30 p.m.

A total of 57 passengers were aboard the vessel when it struck. The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
