McCANN, LOUISE

A Mass of the Resurrection took place Aug. 13 at Immaculate Conception Church, Secaucus, for Louise McCann, 100. She passed away Aug. 11 at Alaris Health at the Atrium Assisted Living Care facility in Jersey City. A long-time Secaucus resident, Louise McCann was born in Jersey City to parents of lrish and French descent. At the age of 21, Louise joined the United States Marine Corps during World War II in honor of her brother who passed away, for serving in the Marines was his dream. Throughout her career with the Marines, she served as an accountant, and later went on to become a secretary upon returning home.
Louise’s 100th birthday on July 19 was celebrated with a close group of acquaintances gathered by Louise’s legal guardian, Monsignor Robert S. Meyer, a Catholic pastor from Ss Peter and Paul Church in Hoboken, who visited her regularly. Recent recognition of her 100th birthday came by proclamation from the Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s office and a Decree of Blessing from Pope Francis himself.
Louise was predeceased by her mother, Jennie, father, Richard and brother, Richard, Jr.
