JERSEY CITY – The Kennedy Dancers, a non-profit professional dance company based in Jersey City, have announced “Summer Dance Fest” sponsored by the Jersey City Department of Cultural Affairs.
These performances will happen for five Thursday evenings – July 7, 14, 21, 28, and Aug. 4. The performances will start at 6:30 p.m. on the J. Owen Grundy Pier (Exchange Place) in Jersey City, accessible by both Hudson Bergen Light Rail and the PATH system.
Summer Dance Fest will be five free nights of The Kennedy Dancers performing works from their eclectic repertory of modern, theatrical, ethnic, ballet, and ballroom styles of dance.
Choreographer and Artistic Director Diane Dragone says, “There are all types of dance, and we try to offer something for everyone.”
The Kennedy Dancers Repertory Company of professional dancers features Bong Dizon, Aaron Atkins, Eli Mendoza, Andrea Ellis, Laurel Zaleski, Shannon Grant, and Gigi Dragone.
The Kennedy Dancers teen company, The Inner City Youth Pre-Professional Company, features eight of the Kennedy Dancers most accomplished young artists. They study 13 hours a week in all dance styles plus many hours of rehearsals. These elite teen dancers are all scholarship recipients who hope to someday dance professionally. Kennedy’s Inner City Youth pre-professional dancers will take up the post-modern – hip hop dance styles at all five performances giving the professional dancers a bit of a break.
Audience members are encouraged to bring comfortable lawn chairs and a picnic dinner for the whole family. Performing directly in front of the World Trade Center, The Kennedy Dancers close the show with “God Bless America” as a tribute to 9/11.
