All voters can participate

To the Editor

In a letter to the editor date June 8th a reader had mentioned her disdain for the primary process in New Jersey. I myself tend to lean towards one party over another yet a simple reading of the rules and regulations for primary voting would show that anyone can vote in the primaries in NJ. Personally I do not think anyone should put a limit on themselves by selecting a party affiliation but to each their own. All a registered voter has to do is change party affiliations from being registered to an affiliated party and register as unaffiliated. Now you have removed yourself from any affiliation and you can change affiliation any time up to and including the day of the primary and declare the party you wish to vote for as I did on June 7th. I walked in said what party I was voting for, it was written down and I voted. Now of course you are affiliating to a party so you’re most likely going to have to unaffiliate yourself again but it is not that complicated. Please take note that I understand your goal but at least you do not have to feel alienated. I feel bad that you did not get to have your vote counted and I hope this bit of information reaches you and all other independents who feel they cannot vote in the primaries in New Jersey because your vote should count.
