Better late than never to say ‘thank you’

Dear Editor: I want to say thank you to all the merchants and commercial property owners on Washington Street who do a magnificent job dressing up their storefronts for the holidays. Of particular note is the magical winter wonderland lovingly created every year by the Musarra family in Dr. Musarra’s storefront window at 233 Washington Street. This miniature snow-drenched tableau complete with Santa’s sleigh flying through the air, skiers sliding down slopes, ice skaters swirling and, of course, trains is a sight to behold for young and old alike. Strolling the length of the avenue this past weekend under a bright clear sky with just enough wind nipping at my nose to feel like Christmas was on its way, I was reminded anew why I love living and shopping in Hoboken and detest going to the malls, especially around the holidays. (Thank you, Big Fun Toys for coming back!) It’s kind of ironic that many malls work hard to re-create a thriving downtown center in an artificial, climate controlled interior space. Why would I choose a pale imitation when I can experience the real thing right here at home? To every person and establishment whose efforts contribute to the vitality of our avenue, I say keep up the good work. Now, if we could just fix the parking problem. Phyllis Spinelli
