Healthy smile: YMCA to hold kids’ carnival

The YMCA is attempting to make learning about health fun for kids ages two to 12 at a Healthy Kids Carnival that will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 1 at the YMCA building on Washington Street. Administrators are setting up a series of booths where children can visit to learn about a variety of health related issues, including dental care, nutrition and steps to take to avoid injuries in sports, according to Trish Mcquillen, a spokesperson for the non-profit organization. “Each child will be given a passport that is stamped when they visit each booth,” Mcquillen said. “Every child who visits every booth will get a goodie bag that is filled with treats donated by local businesses like McDonalds, Johnny Rockets and the A & P supermarket.” In addition to the booths, kids can play on a moon bounce that will be inflated especially for the event. There will also be a slide. Other activities include yoga, dance, juggling and swimming. A babysitting room also will be available. The entire event is free; however, administrators are asking participants to make a $5 donation. Proceeds go to the YMCA’s after-school program, where kids participate in sports and educational programs. Call 963-4100 for more information.
