Demolition begins for controversial building set for Resnick site

BAYONNE — Demolition work at 46th and Broadway has finally begun, in preparation for the development of a mixed-use project near Resnick’s Hardware store, according to an online report. For nearly two years, controversy had swirled around the 10-story building set to go up at the site. Nearby residents charged that the structure was too tall and not in harmony with the buildings that surround it. But developer and Bayonne native Lance Lucarelli triumphed, getting a nod from the Planning Board in April. The Bayonne Chamber of Commerce supported the project, which is expected to break ground within the next three or four months, according to the press report.
