O’ROURKE, EDWARD F.

died on September 4, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born in Jersey City to Maurice and Isabelle (Farrell) O’Rourke, Edward eventually settled down in Bayonne where he married his wife of 65 years Marie (nee: Julius) in 1951. He enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Motor Machinist Mate, Petty Officer, 2nd Class on the LST 568 during the Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines and Okinawa invasions. He was awarded the WWII Victory medal, The American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign (three battle stars), Philippine Liberation (2 battle stars) and the Navy Occupation Medal as well as the Navy Marksmen Award. After an honorable discharge in 1946, he continued with the Navy Reserves for an additional four years. He was a member of the U.S.LST and LST 568 Associations. Ed worked for the ADT Corporation and then made a career at the New York Telephone Company. He was also a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Telephone Catholic Communications Guild. He was very active in his parish of St. Andrew. He was also a member of the Marist and Holy Family Father’s Clubs. Edward was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and well as veteran’s organizations. Ed was predeceased by his three siblings, Robert and Donald O’Rourke and Muriel Coy. He is survived by his wife Marie; children Kathy (Joey) Nardini, Michael (MaryAnn) O’Rourke, Maureen (Victor) Badaracco, and Eileen Heck. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tracey (Dave) Fournier, Jillian (Mike) Messina, Danny (Diana) Nardini, Tara and Caroline O’Rourke, Meghan (Ray) Campbell, Erin and Michael Fitzmaurice, Alyssa and Victor Badaracco, Matthew, Sean and Kevin Heck, as well as 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
