JERSEY CITY – A 17-year-old Jersey City boy was pronounced dead on the scene after he was shot in the chest on Sept. 12. A suspect has been apprehended.
According to a release issued by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Jersey City Police were dispatched to an area near Hallady Street in Jersey City at about 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 on a report of shots fired.
Police officers found an unresponsive male victim nearby on the sidewalk in the vicinity of 378 Van Horne St. with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim has been identified as Anthony Rios, age 17, of Jersey City. Rios was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 1:40 a.m.
A medical examiner has determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound and the manner of death was homicide.
Jacob Pommerehn, age 18, of Jersey City was placed under arrest shortly after the incident and has been charged with aggravated manslaughter and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Bail has been set at $250,000 cash or bond.
