Funeral services were held Sept. 8 for Dennis J. Mooney, 68, of Toms River. He passed away Sept. 5 at home. Dennis was born in Jersey City, and lived in Guttenberg before moving to Toms River 12 years ago. He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Dennis was a police officer and retired from the Guttenberg Police Department. After his retirement he operated “Denny’s Dog’s” Hot Dog wagon on the corner of 69th and Bergenline Avenue in Guttenberg and played Santa Claus at many locations throughout the state for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the PBA. He was an avid fisherman, an animal lover, and fan of his beloved NY GIANTS and NY METS. He was preceded in death by his wife Arline Mooney, by his father Christopher E. Mooney and by his sister Eileen. Surviving are his son Dennis Patrick Mooney, his mother Jean Mac Lean, his siblings, Michael, Christopher, Carol, Donna, JoAnn and her husband Gary, Jeanie and Stacey and her husband Frankie and by his longtime companion Beth Toth. Also surviving is a nephew and many great nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Colonial Funeral Home, Brick Township.
