Keep your nose in your own ‘business’

Dear Editor:

Anyone familiar with mortality and infectious disease rates in cities like Sao Paulo or Calcutta also understands why the careful control and disposal of fecal material is one of the priorities of any developed society. Whether one calls it excrement, dung, or “doggy poo” (the label used by Marjorie Leuen in her letter published 10/12/00), fecal material poses a health threat to all animals, whether pets or human.

How dare Ms. Leuen assume that parents complaining about dog owners who don’t obey pooper-scooper laws are themselves not pet owners or animal lovers? These laws are in place to protect the health of people and animals.

As for the writer’s equally narrow-minded judgments about the diets of our children, I respectfully suggest she examine her own to discover what’s missing — good taste.
