Funding finalized for Castle Point Walkway Park

Dear Editor:

We are pleased to report that on October 12 the Hoboken Castle Point Walkway Park funding was finalized by the Joint Budget Oversight Committee on which we sit.

This walkway project is located on Sinatra Drive below Castle Point. It is the first such project to be constructed by the State of New Jersey outside Liberty State Park. The total cost is estimated at $3.2 million, to be supported as follows:

$1.35 million from Green Acres and the Department of Transportation in the form off two grants and one loan to the city of Hoboken.

$1 million through a federal grant.

$850,000 from a capital transfer.

The Castle Point Walkway Park will compliment Sinatra Park, which received approximately $4 million in Green Acres funding in 1993. Indeed, Sinatra Park, the planned Castle Point Park, the Port Authority financed Pier A Park and the Applied Companies’ Shipyard Park and 14th St. Pier make Hoboken’s waterfront truly special.

We are proud to represent the communities of the 33rd Legislative District and will continue to advocate on behalf of these communities and all their citizens.
