They Gave Their Lives

Our ship USS Cole stopped in the Port of Yemen to gas up
Never thinking there was terrorists out there waiting to erupt
They came sneaking around our ship, blew a hole in the stern
Seventeen of our sailors we lost, the lost in our hearts burn
Who could be so dastardly hard and evil and downright mean
The terrorists don’t care who they hurt, they can’t be redeemed
When we get our hands on them they will surely have the devil to pay
For the rotten thing they did to our sailors on this or any day

My God, what is this world coming to, will there ever be peace?
We have to stop them, evil men, or the terror will never cease
America, America, pray for our lost children and their families
That God will ease the pain for them, my heart surely grieves
When we send our ships over there, we must keep watch and pray
That this evil never happens again to our fighting men, no way
God in his mercy has taken our loved ones home to rest
They did their job as called for, yes they were the best
I know its hard to say Good Bye, but we all have a season
It’ not for us to ask God why, just to accept his reason
