Published reports in local newspapers early last week stated that a troubled North Bergen go-go club is about to be transformed into a print shop.
A local newspaper reported that owners of the Navel Base, located on Dell Avenue, just off Paterson Plank Road in North Bergen, had sold the property to ICJ Realty Corporation, which will in turn transform the 20,000-square foot site into a lithograph and printing company.
However, township administrator Joseph Auriemma said that the township has not received any official word on a possible sale of the property by the current owners, Allore Corporation of Lodi and its president, Joseph Manzo, nor have there been any applications to the Planning Board to change the dimensions of the current building.
“As of this minute, no plans have been officially presented to the building department and we don’t have any sale papers in place,” Auriemma said. “Because of that, we don’t have any information of a possible sale. I don’t know where this speculation is coming from. I haven’t seen anything about a sale.”
The Navel Base has been a source of many headaches to the township for many years. It was run as a go-go adult entertainment establishment with a liquor license for years, but when the business changed hands in 1996, the township refused to allow a transfer of that liquor license, for fear that the business would become even more risqu
