Dear Editor:
For Brian Stack’s supporters, the recent events in Union City have been a confirmation of our strong belief in the principles we helped Brian bring up in his mayoral campaign. For us, after fighting harsh political battles with the total conviction that Brian is the best person to occupy the highest office in Union City, the phrase “we were right” comes to mind again and again. It’s never pleasant to see an elected official resign. We do not carry the traditional vindictive banner. We wish the best to “Rudy” Garcia in his personal life. His decision has avoided another bitter campaign in Union City, which he had no chance of winning. His was an intelligent decision.
Now the new mayor confronts multiple and overwhelming problems. We are confident that Brian has the capacity and the dedication to bring Union City back from the chaotic situation it finds itself in, and we know that nobody loves Union City like Stack does.
The extreme deficit and the property taxes are two of the major problems challenging the mayor. Stack is the most dedicated worker I’ve known. He will work day and night to resolve the issues that affect the residents of Union City and to elevate the quality of life for all. This is something that goes beyond speculation; he has proven in 17 years of community work that he gets things done. Yet, he is not a magician. It is imperative for the residents of Union City to understand that it will take time to fix what has been badly damaged. The support of all the residents is crucial for this energetic young politician to achieve the great projects he has for Union City.
Stack’s time is here. I have the highest confidence that he can get the job done and more. The situation he inherited is extremely difficult and only with his ability, our help and the necessary space to work, he will demonstrate what we knew in 1998, that he can be a great mayor for Union City.
