Let’s show our support for Congressman Bob Menendez on November 7

Dear Weehawken resident:

As Election Day approaches, I want to bring to your attention the positive contributions that Congressman Bob Menendez makes on behalf of our community. Congressman Menendez has worked tirelessly in Washington on the issues that matter to the township of Weehawken.

In the past two years he has successfully fought to bring home greatly needed federal mass transit dollars. Among the highlights are a $500 million commitment for the second phase of the Hudson Bergen Light Rail to extend the light rail from Jersey City through Weehawken to North Bergen, $2 million to improve the Baldwin Avenue-Boulevard East intersection and $12 million to build a new ferry terminal.

As you are aware, sharing a zip code with Union City has created many problems for our township. For example, Weehawken faced many challenges throughout the census process. Many residents received census applications that listed them as Union City residents. Congressman Menendez and I are working to secure a new zip code for Weehawken. If our neighbors agree, by July of next year, Weehawken will finally have its own zip code.

Congressman Menendez is fighting to make prescription drugs more affordable for our seniors by advocating for a prescription drug benefit under Medicare. As the Chairman of the Education Task Force, he is also fighting to put 100,000 qualified new teachers in our schools. As the Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, he is leading the charge to protect our community by promoting a strong Patients’ Bill of Rights.

Congressman Menendez has always been there for our community when we needed him. This November’s election is our opportunity to show him our support. On behalf of the entire township council, Councilman James J. Terlizzi, Jr., Councilman Louis A. Ferullo, Councilwoman Rosemary J. Lavagnino and Councilman Robert J. Sosa, please remember to vote for our friend in Washington, Congressman Bob Menendez on Tuesday, November 7.

Richard F. Turner
Mayor
