All had a wonderful time while celebrating our Hispanic heritage

Dear Editor:

It’s not often that a group of people will voluntarily give up an entire weekend to do something nice for our senior citizens. However, that’s exactly what the members of the Circle of Life Committee did last week when they put together a truly impressive cultural event in honor of “Dia de los Reyes” (the Spanish Little Christmas).

The day was spent dancing, laughing and eating some of the best home cooked pernil and arroz con gandules ever. But, more importantly, the day was spent celebrating our proud Hispanic heritage. Everyone spent the day singing Jibaro (folklore) music and reminiscing about the past. It was a truly magnificent event, and it just proves to me that there are those in the community who still truly know what it means to be a proud Hispanic American and it shows.

I also want to pay special tribute to Nellie Moyeno, the president of the City Council, David Anthony, the president of the Board of Ed, and all the members of the Circle of Life Committee who have been working hard on our behalf for nearly a year now. It’s very easy to proclaim yourself a leader, but it’s another thing to do what it takes to earn our respect and admiration.
