Dear Editor:
I was intrigued this past week by your story on the 2000 census. That article evidenced over fifteen hundred Latino households having been displaced from Hoboken while in other cities our population continued to grow. To no surprise many of us new that the census would reflect such insult and displeasure in Hoboken’s Latino community. It is evident that this city is still plagued by many issues, but if we don’t take action now, we’ll regret it passed us by. One of these problems is affordable housing for low and moderate-income families. It is clear that this administration has lacked the initiative to promote and preserve affordable housing. Our current Mayor has not properly addressed these concerns, yet he lives extremely comfortable in affordable housing. Instead what we receive is political rhetoric and lyrical “it wasn’t me” answers.
With six weeks away from a crucial election, it is my duty to remind and encourage everyone to get involved and bring change to a government that for years has discounted your vote, voices, concerns and services. One of the greatest rewards in life is knowing you were a part of justice or history. So, I urge this great, diversified community to bring your efforts together and allow your vote to embrace a new Mayor and council. There is no room to tolerate an inefficient, iron-fisted dictatorship. Mayor Russo has orchestrated too much division amongst this city and its time to close his chapter in Hoboken’s history.
The Mayor believes we live an emerald city, however he chooses to forget that there’re still people in Kansas, but like the story of Oz with your vote we will see him melt away on May 8th. So, lets bring professionalism, respect and sane government to our beloved Hoboken. Lets stop the excessive over development, congestions, unsafe walkways, and no parking availability. These are the concerns that Hoboken United has been fighting to address and change. To all my friends, supporters and neighbors I am asking that you consider lending your support to Dave Roberts for Mayor, and the three councilpersons at large candidates; Ruben Ramos Jr., Anthony Soares and Carol Marsh running along his side. They truly embody a team of concerned representatives who embrace old/new Hobokenites, homeowners, renters, low to moderate-income families, minorities, young professionals, diversity, affordable housing and productive government.
