Mayor’s census analysis shaky

Dear Editor:

So Mayor Russo thinks that Hoboken’s Hispanic community has dwindled because they’ve become upwardly mobile and moved to the suburbs? I never would have known that if I hadn’t been told by such a reliable source. I would think there’s been less displacement in the 90’s than the 80’s because after the arson and harassment of the 80’s, there were fewer people left to displace. But don’t worry, the process grinds relentlessly on.

Another interesting thing the mayor keeps mentioning is that the increased traffic in town has nothing to do with the 5,000 new residents, but is from traffic between the two tunnels. He got this bit of wisdom from the census? I guess 5,000 people, many of whom have cars wouldn’t have much of an impact on an enormous city like Hoboken. I also suppose that putting wider, faster roads through town will do a lot to discourage people from using our streets as a shortcut. It’s reassuring to know that the people who run this city have such a solid grasp on reality.
